A legend in the world of ski jumping, Janne Ahonen has expressed his opinion on Ryoyu Kobayashi’s recent spectacular flight, which brought the sport tantalizingly close to the 300-meter mark.
In an interview with sport.tvp.pl, Ahonen confessed that he was surprised when he learned about the construction of the temporary ski jump in Iceland, where Kobayashi achieved a flight of 291 meters. Describing the event as „crazy and fantastic,” Ahonen acknowledged being impressed by the Japanese jumper’s achievement.
However, Ahonen raised questions about the fairness of the event, suggesting that other jumpers did not have the chance to compete under the same conditions. Referring to the absolute world record held by Stefan Kraft, Ahonen emphasized that despite Kobayashi’s remarkable distance, the record still belongs to Kraft.
Nevertheless, Ahonen admitted that Kobayashi’s jump was amazing and expressed his admiration for the Japanese athlete’s performance.
